This is always been one of my favourite ones.
“You Really Got a Hold on Me” was originally a hit by american black singer William “Smokey” Robinson, with his band called The Miracles one of the very first Tamla Motown artists.
This song was released as a single in 1962, and immediately entered in Beatles’ repertoire. They were always been great fans, indeed, of Motown and black music in general, as proved by the many covers on their early records and by some of their own songs (like “When I get Home”) written in a similar style.

On July the 10th 1964 the Beatles came back in Liverpool for the first time after touring in the US. On the next July 10 the city will celebrate the anniversary hosting the first Beatles Day ever.
Local radio stations will play only Fab Four music and the city will be full of inflatable guitars and mop-tops on sale. Other more serious things still wait to be announced.
It could be a nice idea, but don’t you think it’s tourism business rather than music?

Yoko Ono is in legal feud over the release of a 2-hours documetary movie with unseen footage of John Lennon. The movie, originally filmed by her first husband Anthony Cox, has been purchased by World Wide Video company, but now is in possession of Lennon’s widow. Beside the Rickenbacker 325, the Epiphone Casino is for everyone John Lennon’s Guitar par excellence. From 1968 to his early soloist years it was almost his one and only instrument: it’s the guitar which makes the main sound on the “White Album”, the one played during the rooftoop concert in the “Let it Be” movie, not to forget the sessions for the album “Imagine”.
Lennon actually owned the Casino back in the 1966 and used it widely in those years. Not everyone notices it due to the fact that this instrument at that time had still its original paint: when all of it was pulled off, the myth of Lennon’s “white guitar” was born.

The legend of Strawberry Fields starts in Spain. John Lennon wrote it in 1966, while he was abroad playing in Richard Lester’s movie “How I Won the War”.
It’s not coincidental that such an important chapter of Beatles’ story was written in those days. The year 1966 is a main one in their career. In few mounths two important things happened: first, they decided to stop playing live, after one of their unluckiest tournée ever; second, they released “Revolver”, an album that showed the Beatles definitely on the way to avant-gard.
Although the success of the latter, it was all but sure that the Beatles would have a future together, the press often suggesting they were about to split.

Well, they’re not 20 yet, but it doesn’t take a lot.
I met the Beatles at about eleven years old. I used to say I liked them, but the thruth was I had never listened to nothing but Let it be and Imagine. But I was amused by John Lennon’s image. Those little glasses, that long hair, and all that attitude which seemed so intellectual to me.
So I received a birthday present from a cousin of mine: The Beatles - 20 Greatest Hits, on tape.
